| PUBLIC SECTOR | PUTNEY LIBRARY, LONDON | Putney Library is a Grade II listed public library in the London Borough of Wandsworth. The original building was designed by Francis J Smith and following its construction the library was opened in 1899. @wandsworth_council proposed in 2021 that the Putney library would become a community hub, including shared workspaces and a new community café. Following this, COLOINI + LANE have been appointed to move the concept / planning design forward from RIBA Stage 3 and to prepare the detailed construction information for RIBA Stages 4, 5 & 6, through to completion of the project. The proposed works will refurbish the ground floor providing new entrance doors, a study area, café area and new WC facilities. At first floor the children’s library will also be fully refurbished. Works to the second floor will combine the existing spaces into a new fully refurbished workspace and office with breakout areas and a new kitchenette. We can’t wait to see the construction work progress on Commercial Unit 5, located within the recently completed Timber Yard development. COLOINI + LANE were appointed in 2022 to design the fit out works which will deliver an original concept supermarket with an Asian influence, café and co-working office space. The proposals will provide a high end space with natural aesthetics, distinctive from the competition and appealing to the diverse local population of Southside, Birmingham. The ground works and concrete frame are complete, with the masonry and window installations now progressing well on site and the building really taking shape. Following our appointment on this project in 2021, the team at @coloini_lane together with the main contractor H.A. Marks Construction, have put in the hard yards to deliver this stunning restoration and refurbishment of the grade II* listed Big School at Wycombe Abbey, High Wycombe. @wycombeabbey is an independent girls' boarding and day school in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, founded in 1896 by Dame Frances Dove, and is consistently ranked as one of the top all-girls schools in the country. The works to Big School restored the historic timber frame; Rejuvenated the historic wall panelling; Brought to life the magical Shelburne Pew; Enhancement of the timber panelled ceiling including the artistic restoration of the historic hatchments; Replacement of the existing floor and sub-structure in its entirety. A state-of-the-art feature lighting system, expertly installed by @tkinstallations shows off the historic fabric of the listed building with mood settings for any given occasion, from functions to school exams. | RESIDENTIAL | FAIRLANDS, COVENTRY | @coloini_lane are delighted to have achieved planning approval for adding a storey to this dwelling located in a conservation area and surrounded by mature trees protected by Tree Preservation Orders. Following a delicate planning process that involved extensive liaison with multiple departments of the local authority that included the Urban Design team, Conservation Officer, Tree Officer and Ecology, planning permission was granted. We successfully demonstrated that the proposal meets the principles contained within the design guide and the requirements set out by both local and national planning policy. | CHARITY | RED CONSTRUCTION GROUP CLAY PIGEON SHOOT | Spectacular weather led to an enjoyable charity event, as David Coloini was invited to take part in the inaugural @redconstructiongroup charity clay pigeon shoot, in aid of @pancreaticcanuk. The shoot was held at @hollandandholland Shooting Grounds, who provided both a perfect service and venue for the occasion. (p.s. We highly recommend their bacon rolls!) The competition was well and truly on, with the group of 50 achieving some incredible personal and team scores, demonstrating that competitiveness has certainly not been lost throughout lockdown! It was a great opportunity to get together and raise much-needed funding for such an important cause, enabling the charity to continue with their fantastic work! Set in a 170-acre campus, it is consistently ranked as one of the top all-girls schools in the country. @Coloini_lane have been appointed to move the concept design (by Davies Baron) forward from RIBA Stage 3, by the main contractor H A Marks Construction, and prepare the detailed tender information for RIBA Stage 4, Technical Design. The proposed works to Big School will restore the historic timber frame, wall panelling, ceiling including the hatchments and the Shelburne Pew, whilst also replacing the existing floor in its entirety. A state-of-the-art, feature lighting scheme will show off the historic fabric of the listed building, whilst maintaining the iconic meeting space, providing a spectacular setting for gatherings, functions, and school exams. The proposal was submitted as a Class R Prior Notification application which fell within the General Permitted Development Order 2015 (GPDO) for the proposed Change of Use. After overcoming Highways concerns in terms of vision splays into the proposed site, requiring two ATC speed surveys and a report to justify the results, the scheme was given the green light by Bedford Borough Council. The proposal will provide the local area with 2,680 sq ft of new office space (B1c) which will be ideal for small business and provide a shared working space for the post Covid-19 market. The scheme will now progress into detailed design in preparation for the next planning application that will propose the changes to the elevations and internal spaces to provide New York loft-style workspaces with views across the surrounding Bedfordshire countryside.
